What is Scout?

Scout Home Security offers simple DIY home security packages at affordable prices to customers who don’t want to be locked into a contract. They offer five security packages and two monitoring plans, giving customers a choice in how they would want to secure their home.

Scout Home Security systems are adaptable and one of their strong points is the customization. Scout easily integrates with other third-party smart home devices like Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Yale Z-Wave Locks, Kwikset Z-Wave Locks, Nest, LIFX, Philips Hue, and IFTTT.

Another strength is the 4G cellular backup and power backup with the monthly plans. If the telephone or power lines go out, you would still receive SMS, email, or push notifications that something went wrong with your home security. There is a $10 monthly fee to maintain the cellular connection. The system however doesn’t work without a subscription.

Customer Support is available at Scout

Scout’s biggest customer service downfall is that it doesn’t have enough customers to establish itself positively or negatively in the marketplace. Despite the lack of reputation, we found Scout’s website easy to navigate with transparent pricing on every device. Its knowledge base and mobile app offer plenty of helpful articles and tutorials to help you with system setup and troubleshooting. Plus, the products are easy to understand without an engineering degree.

Conclusion

We’re impressed with this product from ADT. It offers all you’d expect from a self-install security system, integrates with Google, Amazon, and other providers, and is backed by one of the best-known names in US security firms. It gives you peace of mind knowing that if you pay for the professional monitoring, it’s done by an ADT monitoring center, not outsourced to a contractor. Better yet, the monthly monitoring cost is much cheaper than other comparable systems.

One of the complaints from other systems clients is that it can be difficult to get coverage for the various sensors throughout your home. Scout uses a wi-fi technology that gives you almost three times the range of most standard systems, making it great if you have a large home.

We’re particularly impressed that you get not only night vision from the cameras, which is standard, but facial recognition also. The cameras will also push notifications to your phone if motion is detected, allowing you to see footage of what triggered their sensors.

Scout is an impressive package, at a good price and backed by a reputable security service. We highly recommend you give them a try.
